Zenith: A Face That Won't Sit Still

A lot of my pieces start the same way: with color first. I'm drawn to vibrant, saturated color before I know what the piece is even going to become.

There's an idea I keep coming back to in my work — art that looks back at you, as if the piece itself is observing the artist while it's being made. Zenith is one of the clearest examples of that. The gaze isn't posed for a viewer standing in front of it later; it feels like it's already watching, mid-creation.

Zenith is also a mirrored image — split down the middle, symmetrical on both sides. It was one of my first experiments with that technique, and something about the bilateral symmetry made the stare feel even bolder, even harder to look away from. There's an explosion of color happening across both halves, but the symmetry underneath it all gives the piece a sense of balance — intensity and stillness at the same time.

That tension is the piece, really: a face that won't sit still, held in place by its own mirror image.
